> Containment Chamber

In extreme mold remediation circumstances, Grimefighers will provide containment to prevent contamination outside the work area. The intent of the containment is to isolate the indoor areas that are subject to contamination from the remediation activities. The containment area is as small as possible to efficiently conduct a proper remediation. When possible, ingress and egress of the containment area is to the outdoors. When not possible to have ingress and egress to the outdoors, a decontamination chamber is installed.

All movable items within the proposed containment area are cleaned and removed prior to building the containment. Items that remain in the proposed containment area including cabinets, carpet or other floor finishes, plumbing fixtures, or other non-moveable items are cleaned, sealed, and covered in plastic sheeting prior to building the containment. Items in the containment remain sealed for the duration of the remediation activities. After the remediation activities are completed, but prior to any clearance sampling, the containment and all items in the containment are cleaned by wet wiping and/or HEPA vacuuming.

> Negative Air Machine

When recommended in the report, a negative air pressure environment is maintained within the containment continuously during the gross material removal and during non-working hours on the days that gross material removal is being conducted. The negative pressure is evident by the inward bowing of any plastic sheeting used as a barrier for the containment.

The negative air environment is created by the use of an air filtering machine exhausted to the outdoors. The negative air machine is equipped with a HEPA filter. The HEPA filters are regularly changed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. A negative pressure of at least minus 0.02 inches of water column relative to the area outside of the containment is maintained for the duration of the work. A sufficient number of negative air filtration units are used to ensure a minimum of four air changes per hour inside of the containment.
